April 29 World Dance Day Celebrations

April 29 World Dance Day Celebrations

The April 29 World Dance Day celebrations, announced by the CID-Unesco (World Dance Council) in central France, were first hosted amongst Muslim countries in the year 2000 by the Bodrum Dance Club, and are still being celebrated on a regular basis every year with great festivity.

This special day, which has been celebrated with various events in Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir since 2006, took place in Bodrum for 3 consecutive years in 2008, 2009 & 2010 and the largest World Dance Day Celebration of Europe was held in Bodrum with 26 countries taking part.

This celebration has grown so much so that since 2011, the International Department has separated the celebrations, and the April 29 World Dance Day Celebrations has now become a local Bodrum event.

Bodrum Peninsula now hosts and celebrates April 29 World Dance Celebration Festivals each year and the dance shows include: ballet, Sirtaki dance, folk dances, Modern Dance and various dance performances from local schools and dance clubs.

With the support of the Bodrum Municipality and the county national education board, it is expected that the “29 April World Dance Day 18th Celebration Festivities”, will take place on Saturday 29th April at the Bodrum Castle, with the participation of 1200 young and older dancers residing in the Bodrum peninsula.
